Remembering God's Word

Hey Everyone! My name is Tom and I lead worship here at Life Community. You might be surprised but if you asked me on Sunday Night to play and sing a song from that morning's service - I would struggle - I often need a reminder or note to help get me started.

This month as we’re focusing on gratitude, being able to “remember” is crucial to living a life of gratitude and more specifically we need to remember God’s word.

Unfortunately it’s our fallen human nature to be self focused and worry about things we can’t control or even things that haven’t happened yet and honestly things that may never happen. But as followers of Christ we are called to be different - to remember God’s word and place our trust in Him

Philippians 4:5-7

The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Remembering God’s Word is remembering 2 things -

His promise of salvation

1 John 5:11-12

11 And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.

And His Faithfulness shown throughout scripture:

Isaiah 46:9

Remember the former things of old; for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me

So, how can we “Remember” - How can we hide His word in our hearts?

Probably a lot like I try to remember the songs we sing on Sunday morning - We’ve got to be in His word consistently - practicing a time of Bible study - Like we would practice a song or anything we want to get better at - and making notes to remind us of what we already know and have read. So that it more easily comes to mind when we need to call on it.
